Summer Session
The Center for Global Education and Japanese Studies at Doshisha University offers a program called “Summer Session”. It is a short-term program to study Japanese language and culture. Participants will study Japanese intensively in small classes with experienced instructors. In addition, they will deepen their understanding of Japanese culture and society through lectures on Japanese culture and variety of cultural activities. Doshisha volunteer students will participate in classes as study partners to support your Japanese language study.

Kyoto inspiration
The “Kyoto inspiration” program of Kyoto Seika University is a new program providing participants with insights into how Kyoto’s traditional culture has had an impact on contemporary popular media, for example, manga, anime, fashion and games.
The program lasts for 12 days, and the lectures will be conducted in English. Field trips, a one-night temple stay and 2 free days for personal explorations are included in this program.

The Program, started in 2015, is a short-term summer program with scholarship granted. The Program provides unique opportunity for undergraduate students from colleges and universities throughout Asia including Eastern, South-Eastern, Central, Southern and Western Asia to participate in research projects under the supervision of Kyoto University faculties.

Special study and training system
A system to take department / area specific classes. The period of study and training is one year. There is no graduation or completion certificate. Admission exams are conducted in the same way as regular international students.

The Ritsumeikan Summer Japanese Program (RSJP) and Ritsumeikan Winter Japanese Program (RWJP) are programs aimed at university and graduate school students with basic Japanese proficiency. These programs are designed to comprehensively introduce Japanese language and culture. These programs offers a unique learning environment as well as opportunities for cultural exchange where participants can engage in short-term intensive language study.

Study in Kansai Program (SKP)
The Study in Kansai Program (SKP) is Ritsumeikan University’s non-degree study abroad program for 1 semester or 2 semesters. The program brings together students from around the world at RU’s campuses in Kyoto, Osaka, and Shiga Prefectures.
Ryukoku University
R-STEP(Ryukoku Short-Term Experience Program)
A short-term program of approximately two weeks, open to students from overseas partner universities regardless of their Japanese language proficiency, nationality, learning history, or cultural background. The program is based at Ryukoku University’s Fukakusa Campus and consists of lectures on Japanese language, culture, society, Buddhism, and fieldwork at historical and cultural sites around Kyoto. It includes various Japanese cultural experiences such as kintsugi (golden joinery), taiko drumming, traditional Japanese dance, sushi making, and making traditional Japanese sweets (jo-namagashi).

Short-Term General Japanese
ISI Kyoto Campus is now accepting short-term students! This is a course for students who come to Japan with a visa status other than a college student visa and study Japanese for as little as 2 weeks. This course is also available for those who wish to stay in Japan for more than one year on a working holiday visa or Japanese spouse visa. In the Short-Term General Japanese Course, students can systematically learn language behaviors (“listening,” “reading,” “speaking,” and “writing”) and language knowledge (“vocabulary” and “grammar”) according to their Japanese language level, so that they can learn Japanese well even in a short period of time.

Summer Intensive Course
This course is for those who wish to study during the summer holidays.
In KJLS’ Summer intensive course, you will learn Japanese based on a theme.The Beginner’s 1 and 2 classes focus on basic conversation for various scenes.
While the Intermediate/Advanced classes focus on a theme (e.g. Kyoto and food).
On the last day of classes, we have a special class as the culmination.
For the 2026 Summer Intensive Course, we plan to go out to eat Japanese food on the last day. The menu will be general Japanese food and will not accommodate vegetarians or Muslims. In addition, there will be no special accommodations for people with allergies.
In other words, non-halal meats, seafood, eggs, dairy products, alcohol, and pork-derived seasonings may be used. Allergen foods such as buckwheat, peanuts, and wheat may also be cooked in the same place. Please be aware of this before applying.

Summer Intensive Course
The Summer Intensive Course at our school is designed for students who sincerely wish to understand Japan and cultivate useful Japanese. We have established programs conducted outside of the school that are designed so the students can confirm and stabilize the results of studies conducted in the classroom. Further, the things the students learn outside of the classroom are incorporated in the following classroom studies. This kind of Japanese language study can only be conducted in Japan, and the experience programs have a multifarious content, including observation tours, Japanese culture experience programs, and exchange programs with Japanese university students, etc. This study program can only be found in Kyoto.

It is open to everyone regardless of age or purpose, such as those who want to learn Japanese necessary for living in Japan, those who want to improve Japanese skills for acquiring qualifications, those who want to study Japanese together with tourism etc.
The course is available to attend for 2-10 weeks.There are classes 5 days a week from Monday to Friday including weekly extra-curricular activities.

Japan International Language Academy is a 10 minutes walk from the central Kyoto “Shijo-Karasuma.” It has good accessibility to Osaka and various sightseeing spots.
